Tal’Dorei is the continent at the heart of Critical Role’s first campaign, fleshed out in Darrington Press’ Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn. It’s a world with tons of range, from gleaming capital cities and cursed forests to ancient dwarven undercities and dangerous jungles.
For most DMs running a campaign here, the challenge is less about finding interesting locations and more about doing them justice at the table. These ten locations cover the full breadth of Tal’Dorei’s locales, each paired with a Czepeku map that gives your players a beautiful stage to adventure upon.
1. Sun Tree (Whitestone) — Sacred Grove (Autumn)

The Sun Tree stands at the center of Whitestone, planted by the Dawnfather himself after the Calamity as a symbol of protection. It sits atop a small hill in Dawnfather Square, its radiant orange foliage and golden glow visible from anywhere in the city.
The Autumn variant of this Sacred Grove map is a natural fit, with its vast ancient tree rising from a clearing ringed by crumbling stone—clearly a location with some hefty divine weight behind it.
2. Castle Whitestone — Royal Palace Series

Built atop a hill overlooking the city, Castle Whitestone has been the de Rolo family seat for generations. Though the Briarwoods were driven out by Vox Machina after years of vampiric rule, the evils they committed still linger in the halls.
The Royal Palace map series is a full suite of palace maps covering everything from servant quarters and guest rooms to grand corridors, with a magnificent throne room at its center that’s a natural fit for a formal audience.

The map also comes with an animated illustrated scene that gives the castle all the gravitas it deserves.
3. Kraghammer — Underground Dwarven City Center

Kraghammer is a dwarven city cut into the Cliffkeep Mountains across three tiers, governed by five noble Great Houses and lit by molten channels. The industry here is formidable, and so too are the depths underneath it.
This Underground Dwarven City Center map is exactly what it says on the tin, with heavy stone architecture and tiered walkways that make it a solid foundation for when your players delve deep into the secrets of the subterranean city.

The map’s animated illustrated scene shows the magnificent city at full scale, looking out over a cavern city lit by waterfalls of molten lava cascading down from above.
4. Abdar’s Promenade (Emon) — Marketplace Festival

Abdar’s Promenade is the commercial heart of Emon, a sprawling district of market stalls, warehouses, and competing neighborhoods, each with its own distinct culture—though all the cheer and bustle hasn’t stopped the criminal operations rampant through its shaded alleys.
This Marketplace Festival map gives your players’ Promenade visit the stage it deserves, with a vibrant plaza full of stalls and a grand central performance—the perfect place for your players to pick up a rumor or make a questionable purchase.
5. Cloudtop (Emon) — Shimmering Port (Sky)

The Cloudtop District sits above the rest of Emon, home to the Cloudwatch Palace and the skyships that carry the city’s wealthiest residents above the rooftops.
The sky version of this Shimmering Port map sets the scene beautifully with its white stone plazas and blue-domed buildings above an open expanse of pale sky and circling birds.
6. Temple District (Emon) — Golden Cathedral Rooftops

Emon’s Temple District houses all the city’s major religious institutions, with grand sanctuaries to the Prime Deities that carry political and spiritual influence.
This Golden Cathedral Rooftops battlemap captures the complex from above in all its glory, all domed gold and stone battlements. Whether your players are seeking a blessing, chasing a lead, or starting to suspect some temples aren’t entirely above board, this map carries the right weight.

The map’s animated illustrated scene pulls back down to the street level, looking up at a gothic skyline where a cathedral crowns the city’s tiered heights.
7. Frostweald — Fallen Ancient Tree (Winter)

The Frostweald is a forest at the northern base of the Stormcrest Mountains, locked in permanent winter since the Icelost Years, when a powerful elemental tore through the plane of ice.
The winter variant of this Fallen Ancient Tree map thrusts your players right into that frigid stillness, with a massive frost-covered trunk sprawled across a snow-dusted clearing, the small campfires between its bare branches offering the only warmth for miles.
8. Gatshadow — Dragonlands Fortress (No Lava)

Gatshadow is a mountain of corrupted stone looming over the Dividing Plains, its peak twisted into a needle by the Chained Oblivion. More recently, the black dragon Umbrasyl of the Chroma Conclave has taken up using the high bluffs as a lair.
The lava-less variant of this Dragonlands Fortress map makes for a small foothold inside the mountain, with dark obsidian and blackstone pressing in around a small fortified camp. It’s easy to use as a home base in a hostile land, or a cultist outpost or smuggler’s hideout your players have to clear.
9. Syngorn — Elven City Center

Syngorn is the heart of elven civilization on Tal’Dorei, a city of curving stone grown up around the base of the Stormcrest Mountains. Its jade walls are wrapped in ivy, and the whole city is anchored to the Fey Realm, ready to vanish to safety if it’s ever threatened.
This Elven City Center map wholly reflects that elegant beauty, with its symmetrical whitestone paths, ornate domed buildings, and lush gardens. It’s a great setting for a formal audience with Syngorn’s elders, or just for players passing through and getting a sense of how different things are here.

The map’s animated illustrated scene depicts the city on a bright sunny day, with elegant rooftops rising above the still garden ponds.
10. Rifenmist Jungle — Cloud Forest Camp

The Rifenmist Jungle covers Tal’Dorei’s southern peninsula and has resisted every attempt to tame it. Between the hostile terrain and the dangerous wildlife, it’s not an easy place to live, but those who call it home have managed for generations, while outsiders trying to push in have spent decades getting nowhere.
This Cloud Forest Camp map sends your players right into the dangers of the dense canopy, along a winding path into misty switchbacks overgrown with tropical ferns thick enough to hide whatever’s watching them.
